Games
I love role-player tabletop games, both playing them and creating them, and have written two so far. Click a button below to get a copy of those reader guides.
Art
One of the great things about all my fantasy is the presence of art.
Art is a bit of a lost tradition in books; I secretly want to return to the days where ‘grown up’ books had illustrations every twenty or so pages . Fantasy maps are a core part of the genre but I have worked with some great artists to see character sketches, maps and more, and you can see all of that below. If you’re looking for Fan Art, you can see that here.
Below are some galleries of featuring this supplementary artwork, and including the updated role-player’s guide (now a reader’s guide) for the Cold Iron Project.
For that project, Toronto artist Keight MacLean painted an original work to illustrate both the city of Megara and a few of the principal characters. Steven Sandford has drawn innumerable maps for both historical and fantasy projects. Dmitri Bondarenko helped me with my initial concepts on monsters and on people for the ‘Traitorson’ series; Steve’s maps clarified the measure of my worlds, both Isla (Cold Iron/Masters and Mages) and Alba (Red Knight/Traitorson) to an amazing degree, but please keep in mind that there’s no satellite mapping service in Medieval or even Early Modern settings, so these maps are only ‘mostly’ accurate…
Also note that all the art for Red Knight, especially the concept sketches for the Adversarius and the Boggle, are from early in the project. My Boggles came out less insectoid, in my head, and the Wardens, my favorites, are more Saurian and more noble now… but this series wouldn’t exist without the help of artists; these two, and other friends who make things, and eventually I’ll put up some artifacts of the Red Knight’s world…
